Today we wandered around Aria and the City Center. It is a very beautiful area of the strip, but very pricey on food and beverages. Many things to photograph as long as you just look around. Here are some photos from todays outting:
This blog will be about a variety of different things. I will post my thoughts and feelings on things, reviews of events, stores, books etc. I will also post alot about photography and my work.

Abandoned Rock-A-Hoola Water Park
Rock-A-Hoola water park (aka Lake Doleras & Discovery Waterpark) was originally designed by Bob Byers and was built in the late 1950s/early 60's. It sitts off I-15 on the East edge of the Mohave Desert between Baker and Barstow, CA.
The park opened under the name Rock-A-Hoola on July 4, 1998 but filed for bankruptcy in Feb 2000. The park was sold and reopened as Discovery Waterpark in May 2002. In 2002 and 2003 the park was only opened on weekends. The park eventually closed in the Summer of 2004.
Since then parts have been sold off. The large attractions no longer stand. Vandals have tagged with graffitti and have destroyed walls.
Myself and a few other decided to go out and take some photos of this once beautiful park. Here is an old commercial of what the park once was:
It was sad to see a part of west coast history in such shambles. The ceilings were caving in, broken glass everywhere. Old desks and chairs are still in some of the offices (not to mention old papers like applications for employment that were on the floor that had been filled out many years before).
Below aresome of the photos I took, however you can see them all here: http://dawncall.zenfolio.com/p130428032

Today our class wandered around an area in downtown Vegas, starting 3 weeks of black & white photography. We met up at LV Blvd & Oakey and then walked around from there. By the time I left it was 103 out. phewwwww. This area had alot of abandoned hotels where you can tell some are being used by homeless people to live in. Here are 10 of my pics from today:

9-17-11 Steampunk Causeplay Charity Event
An awesome event was held last night at the Artifice, the Steampunk Causeplay Charity Event took place from 8:00 pm till after 11pm. Hosted and created by Brieanna Brock, Amber Foley, and Mz Mina Kahn to help 2 local charities here in Las Vegas.
The challenge to the local designers was to pick from a list of comic characters then to Steampunk this character on local models. The designers did a great job. There were many comic characters with a variety of looks. From gorgeous dresses to detailed body painting, this event rocked.
The models then walk into the crowd collectiong donations from fans that liked their cosplay costume the best. The audiance favorite was The Lady Mad Hatter with Zatanna comming in a close 2nd place.
The event also had raffle items, auction items, and a couple of vendors to also raise money for the charities. Alternate Reality Comics was on hand with racks of books and comics for fans as well.
The 2 charities to benifit from last nights event are: The Center and Spread the Word Nevada.
