Back to School

Today its back to school time. I have 4 classes left and 3 of them are this semester. I am excited to get started. I love learning new photography items and techniques.

Also today is my son's 1st day in preK. Its the same school he has been in, just a new classroom. He was very excited.  I can't wait for Kindergarden next year so I won't have to pay such large amounts anymore.

So all around the area kids & college students are heading back to class today. So be prepared to slow down and watch for kids and school zones.  :)

Incredible photo ...

I find this very stunning & I had to share it...............

001CATERS_Amazing_Storm_01

"This is the terrifying moment a cloud threatened to develop into a full blown TORNADO over a row of family homes. Brave snapper Pat Kavanagh took this shot of an explosive black storm from the roof of his house in Taber, Canada last month. Expecting the sunny weather to take a turn for the worse he watched intently as the billows started spinning into a furious funnel. This pic was created by stitching together multiple photographs in a vertical panorama. (Photo: PAT KAVANAGH / CATERS NEWS)"

Photo Prices...

I have heard a few people mention how high some photography prices are (not mine, lol but in general).  So I wanted to take a moment to mention a few things that some people dont tink of that I have learned along the way while earning my certificate & now my degree....

How many hours does the photographer spend with you..... (think of an hourly wage)
Equipment being used......  (Photography equipment is expensive)
amount of time post editing each picture (switching from RAW to jpgs, etc)  (100 pics = an hour or 2)
Special custom edits... ( depending on what type of edit can be 30 minutes to 5 or more hours)
If the photographer has to drive somewhere to meet you... (gas/vehicle wear)
If its a special place u need permits for to even have your photos done in that location or entry fee...
if you ar getting a package instead of a CD... the prints cost, etc

Weddings... & Reception.....  Backup equipment, getting those in the moment have to get shots, assistants. etc    How new or experienced your photographer may be can also be a factor.

The only cost I agree that is typically too high... PreSchool photos if its being done at 1 location, same backdrops for all the kids, no editing out booboos etc... why is it $20 a sheet??

On a side note..............
Ive actually met a few people that have Photography business cards or call themselves photographers who have only been shooting a few months & no official training or internships. So make sure when you book something you are being paid for to not only see their work but to see either how long they have been doing photography or if they have any degrees or certificates in photography.

Cosplay - & upcomming Comic Con

I have been having alot of fun doing cosplay photography. Mostly with Brieanna Brock, but I will be doing more with others soon as well. I have an interest in re-creating some of the comic covers into Photography and see what I can do.

(model:  https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/Brieanna.Brock.official.fan.page)

I love the dress up aspect & the challenges it will pose. There is some beautiful and creative comic cover artwork out there and I havent run into any photography that seems to cater to Comic fans? Im sure there are some out there, I just have not seen any sites yet.  Just recently bought a couple of comics to try to recreate the covers & found some online as well.

This weekend a friend of mine, Joe, will be body painting Brieanna as the original version of WonderWoman & then I will be photographing her. It should be alot of fun!

I will be attending a Comic Con in Jan 2012:  http://amazingarizonacomiccon.com/    Im excited to go. This will be my 1st one. I should be buying my ticket around the 15th  ($25 for a 3 day pass, no word on a media pass).  The recommended hotel on their site will not have that sales special ($99 a night, double bed room) in their system for 2 more weeks, so If you plan on going you can book that special about 2 weeks from now.  There will be 6 of us in the van splitting hotel & gas, so it will be a realitively inexpensive trip.   Im excited  :)
